Today I had an ultrasound to see if Reese is in the right position, to measure and weigh him, and to check on other things that I didn’t really pay attention to. According to Babycenter.com, at 35 weeks most babies weigh 5 1/2 pounds. So I went in today expecting Reese to be around that weight. Little did I know, I am brewing a future football player! Reese weighed in at 7 pounds! Yes, you read the correctly! After she said that weight, I heard nothing else out of her mouth! Rich got really excited about Reese being so big. He hoping Reese comes before the end of December so I guess the big baby gave him some hope. Of course I just got super nervous. The nurse continued to tell us that most babies gain one pound per week from this point. I still have four weeks left! If that really happens then I will be giving birth to a toddler! So as Rich gets excited about my chubby Reese, I am nervous about giving birth to a big baby! Any advice or encouragement from those who have given birth already is welcomed!!!

Don’t freak out! They said Noah was around 6 1/2 at 36 weeks. I don’t know why your nurse would tell you they gain a pound a week…they can gain UP TO a pound a week, but it’s generally closer to a 1/2 pound. I’m fairly certain you’re not going to have an 11 pound baby.
Plus, the ultrasound weight estimate is just that–an estimate. The margin of error can be up to 2 pounds in either direction. So even if Reese IS exactly 7 pounds right now, you’re still looking at more like 9 pounds at birth. A big baby, yes, but not Godzilla.
Your body can handle more than you think it can. If your doctor was really concerned about Reese’s size, they would be telling you to watch what you eat the next few weeks and discussing the option of inducing early.
…and besides, if you’re still getting an epidural (and they administer it better than mine), it’ll feel the same whether he’s 7 pounds or 12 pounds! No worries!
